Raul Alexi Matute, 56, of Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on May 27, 2025. Born in La Ceiba, Atlántida, Honduras, in 1968 to Minerva, Raul's journey took him from his beautiful home in Central America to the Midwest, where he built a life centered around family, community.

In the 1990s, Raul relocated to Michigan, where he dedicated himself to the culinary arts, becoming a beloved chef at a local Chinese restaurant. His kindness and knowledge made him a favorite. Raul cherished his Thursdays off, a day he devoted to spending quality time with his family. These cherished moments often included outings to Chuck E. Cheese and Little Caesars, where his laughter and joy were infectious.

In recent years, Raul resided with his younger sister, Lesbia Lezzith, in Wilmington, NC. Together, they found pleasures in simple things: sitting on the porch, listening to music, and sharing stories. Surrounded by his four nieces, Minerva, Marilyn, Betzayda, and Zayda. Raul was a constant source of love and support, always ready to listen and offer guidance.

Raul's passing has left a profound void in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his mother, Minerva, and his aunt, Reina. He is survived by his four children: Cristian Zelaya, Raul Matute Zelaya, Alexa Matute, and Jerry Matute Zelaya and his grandchildren. He is also survived by his five siblings: George Matute, Minerva, Lesbia Urbina Martinez, Gustavo Duran Martinez, and Yadira Urbina Martinez, along with many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Raul's legacy is one of love, dedication, and the enduring bonds of family. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Myrtle Grove Seventh-day Adventist Church, 7547 Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington, NC, from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM, to celebrate Raul's life and say goodbye to him one last time. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Always alive in our heart.
